Woman, 31, clubbed to death with a pipe while sitting in office lobby

A 31-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death by a man hitting her over the head with a pipe as she sat, back turned, in a reception area of a Pennsylvania office building.
The horrific attack in the middle of the afternoon inside an office building in Old City Philadelphia had dozens of witnesses phoning police as the woman was being beaten. This, according to 6ABC in Philly, which adds this about the shocking crime:
Police said a 48-year-old male suspect from Philadelphia attacked a 31-year-old woman from New Jersey with two large metal pipes that were approximately two feet long and one inch wide.
Neither victim or suspect were immediately identified by police.
The attack happened inside an office building on the 300 block of Chestnut Street around 2:14 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the woman, who was identified as a “team leader” in the building, was struck at least five times in the head while sitting with her back turned in a reception area.
The woman later died at Jefferson University Hospital.
Citing sources, 6ABC said the motive in the attack could be a rent dispute. Police confirmed the suspect was renting one to two units on the eighth floor of the building where the victim also worked, the station reports.
“We know that they know each other. We believe there may have been some arguments or problems in the past, however, we are still working on that information,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told 6ABC.
Police said about 20 calls to 911 reporting the attack were made. Detectives also questioned some 10 witnesses. None of the witnesses intervened in the attack, police said.
As officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was seen getting out of an elevator. He was soaked in blood and holding a bag carrying two pipes likely used in the assault, police said.
The suspect was arrested, and criminal charges are pending, police said.
