and "chinese peasant don't live like that" but you're not a chinese peasant are you? . you're an american.

Which makes OP's whole thing dumb. You can do this same video in latin america, africa, and other places of asia lol.

Yes, being an American and using your dollar overseas increases QOL but it does not mean the locals have access to that QOL.

You've been sold wolf tickets. It's not north korea. they will have you believe that, but its not. plus, you're a foreigner. you're not even in their system like that lol.
No, I haven't been sold anything, young man. And I don't need to be in their system to understand what it represents. Just because it's less extreme than North Korea doesn't make the authoritarianism benign.

Im not comparing Ann Arbor to Chengndu. I’m comparing Ann Arbor to New York. What she did in China she could have done in Alabama.
Breh, there's nothing in Alabama, and I say that as a dude born and raised there:mjlol:.

The cost of living is lower when you compare it to other states in America, but the quality of life reflects that:mjlol:.

Matter of fact, I'd say it like this: Asian countries are the GOAT when it comes to quality of life + cost of living + things to do. You wouldn't be able to fathom it until you actually came over here, but most prominent US cities are kinda wack outside of San Diego, San Fran, LA, Miami, NYC, and Chicago.

Red states are holding the country back.

I wouldn’t live in Alabama. I wouldn’t live in China. I wouldn’t move across the world to make 30k. I think what she did is cool as hell, is it something to compare to back home? Nah.

Yeah, passportmaxxing is best when you pull in significant income to put away. I've done it and its awesome but its not indicative of a great country/government or how the locals live around me in the countries im in. That isn't to say the criticism of the QOL in America isn't legitimate but this whole thread is dummy logic.

What stops people from working together to create opportunities in areas with lower costs of living?
Paying for the convenience of work and entertainment of major American cities is what got struggling Americans in major cities in a headlock.
Smaller cities are on the rise and people there are creating better, more affordable opportunities for work and entertainment there.

:manny::manny::manny:
You gotta pay to play. Shyt would be sweeter if communities worked together to build, keep, and protect their own.
Gotta put down roots and make something happen instead of complaining about how hard shyt is all the time. Pay to play.

You seem to be mistaking a speculation on why people put up with the authoritarianism for an endorsement of authoritarianism itself.

Nobody here is endorsing censorship. I'm saying america is getting the negative aspects of capitalism and then getting authoritarianism on top of that. If I wanted to make an argument for authoritarianism, I'd have said something like "when an authoritarian government decides affordability will be a priority, they deliver on that goal because there's no other political party to sabotage their agenda or for them to blame for their own lack of interest in actually fulfilling that goal."

Im not making an argument for authoritarianism, I'm making an argument for the return of the kind of responsible and serious government that gave us things like Medicare, well maintained public transportation, clean streets, well staffed and good hospitals, etc. I dont like seeing people living the American dream outside of America. There's no good reason why the woman in the video and most of us can't have the same lifestyle in any major American city. She went from working over 40hr weeks to barely survive to working less and having a better quality of life only because she moved. It doesnt have to be that way and I think many of us want our work to actually guarantee us a decent standard of living instead of having to hear the endless excuses about why the richest country on earth can't give us basic economic mobility with the billions we pay in taxes every year.
I hate how the US manages to combine the worst parts of capitalism with creeping authoritarianism, and then has the nerve to tell us it's the price of freedom. There's no excuse for how hard basic survival has become here, especially when we're constantly told we live in the richest, greatest country on earth. On that, I fully agree.

But I brought up the "gilded cage" framing because you and @Tommy Knocks comment's leaned on a kind of instrumentalist logic -- the idea that people might accept repression if it delivers material comfort. You might not be endorsing censorship, but that line of reasoning still risks softening how we talk about authoritarianism. It shifts the conversation from whether repression is wrong to how much it can be tolerated in exchange for stability, and that's a slope a lot of people slide down without realizing it.

We should absolutely demand the kind of competent, humane governance that gave us Medicare, strong public services, and fair, livable wages. But we should also reject the idea that political repression is somehow tolerable when paired with lower rent, better trains or mega-cities. People deserve both freedom and dignity, not one as compensation for the loss of the other.

Huh? Who is "they"?

Price indexes...Rent indexes... Local purchasing power....etc are all available online for most cities you want to compare worldwide

:deadrose: :deadrose: :deadrose:

They = The people that always being up China's low wages, and don't mention their lower cost of living. If you want to know specifically who they is, just google news articles talking about China's low wages.

This already been posted. And she not even happy at the end she says her plan is to save up enough to buy a small home in Mexico. :mjlol:

If she was remotely happy her goal wouldn't be to leave that shyt and get as close to America she can for the lowest amount to own a home. :dead:

When I read about China's low wages its usually data like price indexes and local purchasing power in them so maybe thats a you thing.
