A woman on a flight from Dubai to New York City was reportedly molested by a male passenger who rubbed lotion on her while she slept.
Though flight attendants saw the creepy act being carried out, federal investigators say they didn’t stop Nadeem Mehmood Quraishi because they believed the victim “enjoyed it because she did not resist,” The Smoking Gun reports.
And if this story couldn’t get more disturbing, the woman had taken anti-anxiety medicine before the flight, which made her sleep more heavily than usual. When she woke up, the Staten Island man who allegedly assaulted her asked her whether she’d had a good nap, according to Gothamist.
She began to realize something was wrong after she “noticed that lotion had been spread on her arms, chest, and up her legs and that the hand lotion she had placed in the pocket in front of her seat was missing.” The criminal complaint also noted that the victim had pain in her groin and vaginal area and “that her underwear had been shifted and that lotion was in her vaginal area and on her underwear.”
When cabin crew confronted the man, he was anything but apologetic. The Daily Mailreports that Quraishi told the crew that he believed the victim “needed it” and “enjoyed it.” The complaint also claimed that “the defendant also told the flight attendants that he liked it and that it happened to him as a child.”
The 42-year-old man was charged with sexual contact without consent and has since been released on $50,000 bail. A federal judge also ordered him to surrender his passport, not leave New York without permission, and not to contact the victim.
