@Piff Perkins what if you like Applebees, Red Lobster, Olive Garden and top tier Italian restaurants as well? I like all of them.Honestly a woman (or guy) who loves Applebees/Red Lobster/Olive Garden/etc is a red flag for me. More often than not that's a person who just likes wack food drenched in salt and butter. I've taken women to top tier Italian restaurants and had them say it wasn't as good as Olive Garden. At that point you just gotta move on.
There are plenty of non-fancy, local restaurants that are great for dates A date at a Mexican restaurant is always a great idea for instance. Not too fancy, fun food, nice atmosphere...and inexpensive. A steakhouse is also a good pick. More expensive but a good place to get a sense of her taste level, plus you get to see her fashion sense. I took a young chick to a steakhouse once...I showed up in a sports jacket. Casual but sharp. She showed up in a tracksuit. Ordered off the kid's menu (outside of the alcohol).
