On top of that, men respect other men based on their known accomplishments (popularity, if you will), and women respect other women based on their looks.

If you group ten men together, they will rank themselves based on whoever is most accomplished, or richest. If you group ten women together, they will rank themselves based on attractiveness. Bill Gates (or insert some other physically nonthreatening, extremely wealthy person in the mix) will walk into a room with nine other men who are physically stronger and more capable of him and will automatically garner a higher level of respect than everyone else. An unknown, supermodel looking woman will walk into a room with nine Oprahs, and will garner the highest level of respect based on her looks.
