Women of the Coli, can you tell me why telling you to smile is offensive?

First thing I should say is, I'm a very objective person and I can see points people can articulately make. I'm not making this to bash women but to understand why this is offensive.

But be prepared for anti-women post because I know they're coming :francis:

Recently Joe Scarborugh from NBC got into some controversy for saying Hillary Clinton should smile.

Joe Scarborough’s sexist nonsense: Indulging the absolute worst instincts of Beltway punditry

Can one of y'all explain to me why this is sexist?

People in general seem to be offended by it but its a whole different level to women. Its not always meant to be some demeaning thing. Sometimes a person is at work or somewhere just being a fukking buzzkill and should smile or something and at least appear to enjoy life.

But in the end its not our business if somebody wants to look pissy all day and not smile :manny:

I'd go further and say it's not always about being a buzzkill.
As a black man I've never gotten I need to smile, but I have gotten that I looked "mean" or was "too quiet" in the workplace before.

Now to me, that is offensive because you are clearly threatened by my shear presence and want me to take on the responsibility of making you comfortable, which in my opinion has everything to do with your preception and fear of black men.

I'm just curious to hear a woman's perspective on this topic.

We had a thread like this to which I replied because fukk u dats why :pacspit:

Just playing :troll:
But for real tho. Who are you to tell me to smile? If I wanted to I would. You dont know me from Adam, you dont know what I been through and I dont know you well enough to give a fukk about what you think or your opinion on why the fukk I should smile. Youre wasting your breathe and wasting my time and instead of having a genuine interest in my day or how I feel you'd rather I smile so you can enjoy it. nikka, fukk you!

For real tho, the real question should be why are you asking or telling(which is worst) strangers to smile? Who you? :what:

*Not mad, this topic just brings me back to a NY state of mind. And I been dealing with a$$holes today so I got my mean mug/stankface on. :birdman:

Whenever i've told a woman to smile it was usually an attempt to get a convo going that hopefully would lead to me smashing in the very near future :manny:

i'm a guy.

i could see it as being annoying depending on the context, how well you know the person, how you feeling that day, etc.

i don't think it's sexist though. or at least, i don't think it's always sexist. women have told me to smile more (white, black, asian, arab).

then again, some people would argue that intent doesn't matter, it's about how the person receiving the message feels. if they feel like it's sexist, racist, homophobic, etc then that's what it is cause they are the ones experiencing it. I disagree with this way of thinking but as i'm typing this post, i'm starting to feel too lazy to explain why.
