March 27th 1977
Tenerife Airport

Cliffs:
- KLM flight to Grand Canaria was forced to divert to Los Rodeos because of a terrorist attack
- Other planes had to divert as well and that runway began to become crowded
- Pan Am flight from NY had to land there too.
- KLM flight was instructed to take off and Pan Am flight was instructed to follow
- Weather was really foggy and radio communication was not clear
- Both planes started to take off going head on towards each other
- At the last second the Pan Am flight saw the other plane & tried to turn. The KLM tried to lift off early
- Planes basically smacked into each other and exploded. KLM was in the air then crashed and exploded
- 583 people died. Only 61 survivors from the Pan Am flight. All of KLM died.

:wow:

Jesus Christ they saw it coming. My God

When i first saw the thread title i thought this was gonna be about the U.S. Navy F-14 (It was either a SAM or an F14) that shot down the passenger aircraft over Iran in 1988. The Navy claimed it thought it was an Iranian fighter jet.

290 dead

The U.S. government never admitted legal liability or formally apologized to Iran. Instead it agreed to pay $61.8 million USD on an ex gratia basis in compensation to the families of the Iranian victims.
