Would Back to the Future had been successful if they kept actor Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly?

Not as. The script, pedigree of Zemeckis and Lloyd's performance would have made it a hit. But it was Fox's charisma that put it into legendary status.

Yeah, Michael J. Fox really embodied fish out of water.

Plus, Fox was already a TV star, he kind of brought that TV character to the movie.

Eric seemed completely swagless lol.
Hence his being fired once they reviewed the dailies haha.

But it was a summer blockbuster with a unique story in an age where blockbusters were the thing. So I think it would have had success in spite of him. But no way it becomes the classic it has without Fox.

If you have watched the original scenes with Stoltz you know it wouldnt have been successful just off name recognition but he was stale in that role...he didnt capture the mood of that character he was doing it as a drama lol....

Zemeckis has had plenty of flops...

That's a no-go Captain, while I like Stoltz, he didn't have that swag that Michael J had...it showed.

Hell no :dead:

Fox embodied the whole "whoa this is heavy" Steez that seems lacking with dude. No knock on him but it would have been a catastrophe and flop if Fox wasn't McFly.

You scan see just by looking at that screen cap how different that movie and character would have been if Stoltz got the part he didnt know how to do that McFly role....he was treating it like it was a serious role.

Exactly. Like the cadence was truly off and I could tell the chemistry would be a mess if they allowed Eric to be McFly.

The one thing about BTTF was the chemistry between McFly and Doc. Like Fox and Lloyd had this dynamic that mesh well to give the overall movie a bit of everything.

The scene where Stoltz was hearing Doc Brown talk about the gigawatts would have been a afterthought, instead of a :lupe: Type of scene.
