I mean Toei has to look at what Marvel is doing and the crazy amounts of money they're making at the box office. Toei has a genuine competitor to Marvel & DC with Dragon Ball. do you think there will ever be a big-budget, Japanese-made live action DBZ movie to compete with all this superhero stuff, or is DBZ just too hard to make live-action?

It can be done if they actually stick close to the original material like the Marvel movies did. With that being said they'd probably have to do about 3-4 Dragonball movies before they get to a Dragonball Z movie. So many things would have to be set into place.

Goku and Vegeta are too visually cartoonish to do live action.

There are certain characters who you could tell a live action movie with. Like Future Trunks or a Piccolo.

The only way a DBZ movie would work is if they take reasonable liberties with it. Some things in DBZ just don't translate well to Hollywood, particularly the Japanese humor.
