Not at all. The WWF was going through a shift back then and he stuck out like a sore thumb. Had to the fact that he didn't show any charisma at all, and I never heard him talk.

he was only 38 at that point, but it seemed like he was way older.

I don't think he's a main eventer unless he's just a 1-2 ppv off guy for Austin to beat. Like they did with Dude Love.

Even with Cornette and Ross pushing for him, nah sad to say. Vince woudn't have a clue what to do with him.

They shouldn't have had Brawl For All.

Just have him destroy jobbers, and JR manage him on the sly (while pretending to be an impartial commentator).

Just as JR's jig seems up (blatantly removing the headset and interfering in a title match), he cuts a bragging and heelish promo with the man by his side, to prove that he is indeed managing (for the money).

After explaining that a seasoned Japanese veteran like Steve Williams "will destroy anyone," Dr. Death hits him a couple of stiff punches, and makes a statement with his Lethal Dose finisher:

He doesn't need a manager, he'll keep making money, and this time - keep it all to himself. Makes a splash in the upper card, settles in the mid card, fin.

The idea was that he'd coast through BFA and then go into a feud with Austin. If the BFA idea never came up, I'm sure they would've tried out an Austin program regardless.

Dr. Death isn't a main event guy though and has less personality than a rock, so it would've failed.

Yep. Dude had been around since the early '80s. By the time he got to the WWF for Brawl For All, he'd already had runs in Mid-South, NWA, Japan, and WCW. Once he got to the WWF, to me, it was like he was damaged goods and seemed like he didn't belong in the Attitude era/generation. He had so many injuries piled up.

His best bet for a solo title was in ECW. The match he had with Raven was dope as hell.

Nah...didn't have the look or mainstream charisma... his peak would of been like Mick Foley...actually nah, I take that back... Foley was more versatile...he could play deranged and do comedy too... and had the stunt man thing going on to get over... Steve Williams just yelled and had a dated presentation for the late 90s... his peak actually would of been more like a corporate attitude era big boss man at best...

so in other words, not a main eventer but the muscle for the main eventers

This is what I think his role would've been... he was some years removed from his prime by then. He would've had a decent run as a McMahon goon, probably woulda had some run-ins with Austin, Taker, Foley, etc during that time but never a regular main eventer.

It was dumb of them to automatically believe that him winning Brawl for All was a foregone conclusion, when it was all shoot. Shoulda known there's a chance that even a person known for whoopin' ass might still get rocked.
