Tony D'Amato
It's all about the inches
Tyson and the Heavies, the Middleweights, dude woulda been a non story.
Pernell Whitaker? Great fighter, but in terms of pop culture, hes irrelevant. Im not talking about boxing circles, Im talking mainstream.Floyd Mayweather would have been more than relevant in ANY era... greatness is always recognized, especially THAT level of greatness.
Now there's little to no chance he would have had the same level of popularity, but amongst boxing fans he'd be praised. Look at all of the respect Pernel Whitaker still gets, Floyd would at least get that. But without social media and with the heavyweight scene still mattering at the time and hip-hop then not being what it is now there's no way I could see him being the biggest name in the sport.

Have u ever seen Ray Leonard fights? That dude had a side to him where he could go to war when need be. He was way more exciting than Floyd.Like Suger Ray Lenord didn't get love in the 80's
Boxing as a whole was much bigger back then.
A lot more stars in the 80's

Floyd is a talented boxer, but wouldnt nobody in the 80/90s pay guap to see this n1gga pitty pat around the ring for 12 rmds
They wanted excitement. They eanted KOs.

I don't think so. Financially there's no way (in my mind anyway) there's no way he could have seen the success then that he sees now, so off top he wouldn't be able to only fight twice per year and choose whoever he wants to fight whenever he wanted to fight them.Nah. the real boxing heads appreciate Floyd now and would've done so even more back then b/c the business was bigger.
The real wuestion is, if he would've survived the comp and remained undefeated back then.
None of these midgets would have been relevant with the heavyweight division popping
