Would Orlando had won titles if they kept Webber instead of trading for Penny?

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Looking back on it, A prime Webber/Shaq front court could've been :wow:

I know Orlando needed a point guard and Penny was nice but he never stayed healthy and Shaq ended up leaving. And Webber was a facilitator. In Washington he proved he could mesh well with a great front court player. That would've been an interesting combo.

Nah.Trading for penny was the right thing cuz they needed a pg more than a pf and webber never stayed healthy his 1st 3 years in the league he kept dislocating his shoulder. Penny started getting injured after shaq bounced. The magic needed a Pf like horace grant to play with shaq cuz he had range and was more of a face up shooter

I always wanted to know what became of those 1st rd picks that the Warriors gave the magic along with Penny.

Penny complimented Shaq a lot more than Webb would've. Plus they already had Horace Grant at PF who was a good role player at the time

Keep in mind that when Shaq got injured in the '96 season for the first 22 games, Penny put up 26.4ppg, 5.3rpg, 6.8apg; 62.2% TS (50.3% FG, 11.0 FTA) in 38.7mpg. Magic went 17-5.

Considering the immaturity issues both of these cats had, plus the egos of both especially early in their careers, and the pressure that would have been constantly put on them pretty much from day one, I have a hard time believing that they wouldn't implode. They would've needed some VERY strong veteran presence in that locker room, and they still would need a point guard.

That said, I think Webber was always more talented than Penny, and I think he and Shaq could have worked together during that era. They would've needed an upgrade for Scott Skiles though, but they had the shooters. And I think they would've needed a stronger coach than Brian Hill as well. Talent wise the potential was unlimited, but I still think they would have needed a leader.

No reason why they could've have attracted a good free agent point guard.

I think the magic got fancy and only benefitted from MJ retiring. Had he not the magic wouldn't have sniffed the finals.?

I also think shaq would've possibly stayed or they both would've left. Getting Webber would've been a more high risk/reward.
