Im watching this documentary on Netflix called “Cuba and the Cameraman” about this reporter who has been going to Cuba since the early 70s to document life there, and Fidel kind of made him his personal American reporter.

Listening to Fidel and his ideas for his country, it seemed like his heart was in the right place and all he wanted to do was take care of his people. I have been studying communism since I was a teenager & have always been a fan of it.

I think at the town or city level it could work, but a whole country on that type of system would take a while to be successful.

How does TLR feel about communism?

When I win I bring we with me
You think you're going to have a productive conversation about political systems in TLR :skip:

I'm not an advocate for communism nor democracy ....outside of an adequate context
(you can't be a small 2-10million citizen emerging economy trying to practice "democracy" in a context where even mid size foreign corporation, not to mention large nations can buy your elections)

That's the problem with a place like Cuba or even Zimbabwe. once you take over a country like that you are not in a context to practice "democracy" as larger more established countries do. The best you could do is a china and...
1. Seal yourself off from the rest of the world(no travelers or foreign investors).
2. Create a # year development plan
3. Establish(successfully practice) your political system and method of political transition
4. Establish a core educational & economic track
  • Fund private citizen merchants to go overseas and purchase needs like medical supplies, cars, electronics, etc.
  • Create a teachers university by funding private citizens to go overseas and bring back knowledge of vital industries.
5. Provide resources in terms of land & seed money to establish basic economy(feed, cloth, house the nation) based on #4 above.
6. Then open your country up to foreign travelers & international business

It's been proven to be the fastest system for getting people out of poverty due to its economy being planned.

The problem with communist governments is that they are very authoritarian due to its revolutionary nature.

I would like to see a libertarian communist/socialist country instead of a Marxist Leninist Maoist country.

We never seen communism though, a classless society. We seen people take the necessary actions to get there.

But yeah hopefully we will see a communist society, China got a chance.

Communism no.
Socialism, perhaps.

I still don't think governments have done the whole "means of production thing" well. Part of why we have so much variety is because capitalism DOES breed creativity.

I don't think people really understand how pervasive and stifling communism really is. There's one party, creativity is shunned, every man is equal regardless of ability (so a genius in mathematics can easily get lost in the sauce in some remote oblast). Consumption of goods is controlled by the government, as is production.

So if its 8pm and you still hungry after dinner you better hope your fam has enough rations left. Communism is a perfect example of a good idea taken too far.

Only because there's always that group of selfish evil mfs. Would work on small community scale asap

You know what is a good example of communism/socialism....the USA military

The government provides for your housing, people are paid according to their ability, there's free schooling, there's free healthcare, there's cost of living adjustments to your pay

People act like communism/socialism is some mystical thing when if you join the us military or be a us military dependent...you pretty much have a communist lifestyle if you live on base...

How can something be proven to work if no one's ever done it?
