company i was working for in philly got bought out by a company in minnesota. only 2 of us took the offer to move to minnesota. everyone stayed behind and took unemployment and the severance package. which honestly wasnt crap. best move i ever made. got a 10k relocation package. was able to get a fly out to look for a spot. was even able to rent a car to get around so i could look for a place. of course now im ready to move back to the east coast. it was nice. but now that i have kids. its the worst. no cousins to play with. holidays you dont see your extended family. flying home once a year. TIME TO DEFINITELY MOVE BACK

How is life in minnesota? because at my company I'm a finalist for a position which would cause me to move there.

stay in the same place you grew up in your whole life w/o exploring the world brehs

Graduated from howard in 2011. since then I've lived in Jersey, Dallas, and I'm currently in Germany til August then I'll be living in Crystal City VA most likely. Love the hell out the DMV but the opportunity to see the country and Europe and get paid for it is once in a lifetime.

Really has made me understand how much is really outside of "the hood" it's a blessing really.

positives- excellent public school system. clean air, all 4 sports teams, mall of America, theatres and plays. we have the Orpheum theatre and state theatre which are top notch. AFFORDABLE. fortune 500 companies. target, best buy, general mills.

negatives- one black radio station. people here still hang with the same friends from high school, no black middle class neighborhoods, one of the most expensive states for daycare, Minnesota also has the worst black white unemployment rate. a bunch of people come here from Chicago. mainly for the welfare beneifts. cold cold cold.but you have to have the right coat, dress in layers. make sure your car is working properly and that you have a garage. nightlife is only on fri and sat nights. any other time, the city is DEAD unless its an event going on(concert, sporting event, etc)

I think if you are satisfied in your career, then make the move. but if you are young and just getting established. come here save your money then move on. I honestly don't think blacks get promoted. now is that lack of education or race? I cant answer that. a lot of guys here mess with the white girls. the swirl is in full effect here. lots of somalians here too. I like Minnesota but I have no family here. I have a son and daughter so I want my parents to have a relationship with them other than Skype.

And breh since i've been here, I've been more impressed with Turkish women than i'd ever think. Basically a bunch of kim k look alikes without the surgeries

Thanks for the info because I'm 28 and I was thinking about moving there; if I get the job and I would stay there for a couple of years and just stack money. I was looking around to see if they had a middle class black area and I also look at the party scene. The rent there is cheap compared to were I live at and thanks for the info.

I'm not really into white chicks like that; so I'll hit those somalian woman and the left over sisters. I also thought about furthering my education while I'm up there.

What is the food like; do they have soul food up there?

Plenty of times:
- Moved away from home for college.
- Moved to a completely different city for my first job after college (moved to GA)
-There was a 5 day window between when I applied for an out-of-town opportunity, got it, and accepted the offer. I moved from Atl to the mid west.
- I've lived in Cali for a few months to complete a short-term fellowship.
- I recently moved to the Northeast and have no idea where I will be when I graduate (hopefully in the south to stay settled for a while).

If I wasn't in grad school and a long-term relationship, I'd probably be doing teach away in Abu Dhabi.

You have to be willing to go after opportunities no matter where they are.
