Would you be in favor of government limits on the amount of sodium that can be put into processed food?

Salt reduction program?

Was reading up on the Salt Reduction Program in the UK -

Basically they had a government program to make producers in the food industry stop putting so much sodium in foods. Turns out it was successful, the population consumed about 15% less sodium and they had a big reduction in heart attack and stroke rates. So for those of us outside of the UK...would you be in favor of a government program to cut back on sodium? Or is this something the government should stay out of?

yea, sugar, salt and not naturally occurring saturated fat should all be limited. i tried to limit salt intake a few years back and got damn at the amount of salt in benign shyt - like bread
100% whole wheat bread is like the worse when it comes to sodium. it's like WTF. my mother told me the doc said she was prediabetic and she already has high blood pressure and limits her sodium intake, so she texts me one day and said she was at CVS to buy some glucerna and while the sugar content is low, the sodium is like 210mg and asked me to look for a nutritional drink with low sugar and lower sodium. so i checked all the different glucerna and ensure and found an ensure max protein which has 1g of sugar and classifies as low sodium being under 140mg. oh and this is how they get you for trying not to have a ton of sodium and sugar: ensure max protein is only 4 bottles in the pack when the others are 6 and it costs more.

Above the fray.
@acri1

For years, perhaps decades, food packaged and sold in USA has been required to have nutrition labels.

People have an idea of how much sodium is in the food they purchase. Many just don't care.
