Would you ever take a 100% commission job?

Because I'm considering it... :yeshrug:

I work in recruiting, and make a nice little living (decent base salary with a generous commission, this year I'll clear $60K - not bad), however, my job is pretty stagnant and dull. Been a dry market for the industry I recruit for for a few months. No pressure, I can come and go often as I please. I spend a lot of my day surfing the web.

Thing is, I don't want to do that. I'm the kinda guy who wants to be busy, not bored or "comfortable". I'd love for my days to fly by, but lately, they're not (I had to take the clock off my desktop brehs)

I interviewed at this new(ish) firm in town. Smaller company, all young guys. Office is amazing (pool table, beer fridge, etc. - looks like a bachelor pad/man cave). But the compensation is 100% commission. I'm a lil worried about that

:whew:

They made the compensation seem good (as in, I could maybe double my earnings if I perform as I think I would), and I know a few others in my field who've done well there, but still... I like the security of knowing I have that paycheck coming in every two weeks.

Anyone ever made such a bold career move? How'd it pan out?

Not quite.

As in, I sign a deal that pays the company $20K, and I get $10K (before taxes) of that, and not the $2500 I get now on such a deal with my current employer (who pays me a base salary of $42K).

The Chi (South Side)
if ur good at selling, u can really :eat: here.

my brother in law has a 100% commission job selling radio station ads.

I also that has a 100% commission job as a commodoty broker.

anyways, the good thing about a 100% commission job is basically you can take off any time u want. the bad thing is, when ur not at work, u ain't gonna make money like the rest of us when we take vacation days.

Well how much of that 10k you taking home?

I have a commission job also but I have a pretty decent base. I would never take a full commission job unless its part time

No not in this economy. Because companies usually exaggerate the numbers they're doing.

It's hard breh.

When I complain about my job to my friends, they don't have a lot of sympathy.

"Oh, so your job is TOO easy? You can look at the Internet all day and you hate it?!? FOH!"

But it really isn't ideal for the long term :ld:
