you know what we don't have much of anymore, wrestling characters.

i think back to when i was a kid. there was a guy named rick the model martel.

latest

rick the model martel was an arrogant and flamboyant DOUCHEBAG who claimed to be a model. you ain't never seen dude in any magazines but still he was often seen in luxurious settings surrounded by gorgeous women so he must've been legit. probly was on some real exclusive shyt.

but rick was also big, strong, and a world class athlete. you could tell just by looking at him. you would NOT be surprised to learn that this guy also doubled as a pro sportsman.

now for the sake of discussion let's examine this guy.

from what i can gather adam rose is a guy that wants nothing more than to be able to party and be free 24/7. a cult celebrity of sorts that has managed to amass a small following of weirdos and druggies who follow him around the world and look up to him as a god. okay, cool. he's definitely a character.

but could he be a WRESTLER? :patrice:

a reality star maybe. a guy that might be able to land a gig hosting the E network fashion awards maybe. but a wrestler!?!? this frail looking, ecstasy taking weirdo? he wants to be a wrestler!?!?!?

and you're tellin me he DOESN'T get his ass kicked every time he's out there??? what sorry excuse for a human being can't beat this guy?? :pachaha:

Too many politics now...everything is designed to make sure Cena looks good or gets to come back looking good. Only new characters since 2012 that has been allowed to stand out are the Shield guys. They keep Cena from Reigns exclusively so he can keep looking strong and doesn't have to go through any political bullshyt. So you can have all the Rick Martels you want in this era but it would just be fed for a Cena to look superior to so he would never be as OVER as he was back then. It's all fukked up now. The good character building..the little superstar jobber matches on Sat morning....the heat inducing angles where you use cologne like "ARROGANCE" to spray into someone's eyes to get heat? Nah..that's all dead.

Ignoring a certain post made by a certain poster, I get what you mean, OP. I think a better example would be Solomon Crowe. Dude comes out in NXT with a hacker persona. That's cool and all, but how is hacking gonna help you in the ring? Why is winning the world title so important for you as a hacker? It makes no sense and that's a huge problem in this era where in an attempt to create a unique character, they create a gimmick that has no purpose in the ring.

I wonder if they will say the cole/lawler cena era was the worst era in professional wrestling history in 10 years

the OG Ascension were characters

Tyler Breeze is a character, but he doesn't really do a lot of heel shyt in his matches.

TNA does a better job with characters

How does being a model help you in the ring?

If you actually read the op, it becomes clear this thread isnt really about characters as much as it is yet another thinly veiled wrestlefag thread complaining that guys aren't roided enough.

did you? :francis:

watch his promos and vignettes. modelling was his day job but he was still portrayed as a competitor that wanted to test his prowess by competing in the ring. the point being it wasn't a huge stretch that this guy might be a world class athlete who trained really hard when he wasn't doing his usual "model" stuff.

though if he weren't bigger, stronger and physically more imposing than the average man... i'm not sure if it could have worked.

Adam Rose looks like an athlete though. So does Tyler Breeze. But when you look at their persona's, I'd say Breeze does a better job of incorporating his model gimmick into wrestling than Rose does with his rockstar gimmick. Because Breeze actually goes out there like "I'm the best looking guy here, so I should be the face of the company and that's why I need that title". Yeah, it's paper thin but there's a correlation there to who he is and what he wants. To keep it simple, it feels like there's a bunch of guys who have a gimmick that might make for a unique persona, but doesn't explain why they want the title or even why they're wrestling in the first place..

Kevin Owens being a family man who wrestles for that title because it means more money to support his family is a good example of how simple it can be.

Sami Zayn being a wrestler who wants to make it to the top but might be too nice to do what's necessary is another good example.

I guess you dont watch Raw either...let me know when you need me to spoonfeed simple Raw themes that revolve around the Cena character.

Nyggas acting dumb like WF acts dumb on Naomi...Cena didn't bury Rusev wholesale....looking right the whole time because he's booked to look right and not look bad. Getting the last laugh on the fan wanted Lana and hot heel Rusev..just like he did with the Wyatts and how he did with Punk at the end. Just like he always does. And unless something odd happens, how he will with Owens tomorrow night. HOW THE fukk a character gonna get over if they face this guy in a feud? Go find Zack Ryder, dummies:laugh: Or Hassan...Carlito...Nexus..Ziggler..Big E..Or Umaga....lol.

I watch Raw but still have no clue what you're talking about. Are you saying gimmick characters can't lose matches anymore?:ohhh:

Big E's doing fine right now he's a tag champ, Umaga is dead too wtf are you talking about? :what:

If a guy is looking to be seen as credible..how does he get that credibility if he's a guy who loses when it counts...they didn't do that sh1t to Cripple H when they put him over. Nope. They just kept pushing him...gimmick matches and all.
