Sorry if this was already posted haven't posted in awhile

Found on Forbes:

Goldberg will face Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship at Fastlane, a booking decision that isn’t sitting well with many fans who are tired of part-time stars taking spots from full-time ones.

But there’s a method to the madness here, and Goldberg wouldn’t be getting a mega push if it wasn’t for a very simple fact: He draws.

One of the main reasons why the Goldberg/WWE relationship was rekindled in the first place was his surprisingly successful DVD sales back in 2013 and 2014. In 2013, WWE: Goldberg – The Ultimate Collection sold 74,000 units in the first month after its release, easily outselling a Triple H DVD released around the same time. The following year, Goldberg was one of only four superstars (along with legends like The Rock, CM Punk and The Undertaker), whose DVD surpassed 100,000 total sales.

Eventually, that led to Goldberg coming back to WWE last year as the pre-order bonus for WWE 2K17, the latest WWE video game installment and one that centered much of its marketing around the former WCW star. Several months after its October 2016 release, the game currently sits at No. 9 on the UK best seller list while Take-Two Interactive, the game’s distributor, has seen increased digital revenue in part because of the success of the game.

WWE has clearly developed faith in Goldberg as one of the company’s top attractions, and rightfully so. Here is a look at some of the positive impacts Goldberg has had on ratings for Monday Night Raw alone:

  • Goldberg’s initial WWE return on Oct. 17, 2016 attracted 3.13 million viewers, an increase of 372,000 from the previous episode.
  • According to F4WOnline.com, “Raw on 11/21, the show coming off the Bill Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar match, did a 2.13 rating and 2,985,000 viewers (1.51 viewers per home), the second best number going against the NFL this season.”
  • The Jan. 2, 2017 Raw featuring the return of Goldberg ”averaged 3.046 million viewers, up from the 2.855 million average from last week,” an increase of 191,000 viewers.
  • The Jan. 23, 2017 edition of Raw, built around Goldberg’s showdown with Brock Lesnar, jumped up 21,000 viewers and saw its rating increase to 2.29 from 2.16 the week prior, its best rating since August 2016.
Initially thought to be one and done in WWE after signing a “real big money deal” for his match against Lesnar at Survivor Series, Goldberg’s drawing power forced WWE’s hand. He signed a new contract for matches at The Royal Rumble, Fastlane and WrestleMania, and he will main event Fastlane in a Universal title match against Owens, a match he’s widely expected to win that bout in order to go on to defend the title against “The Beast” at WrestleMania 33.

And despite some resistance from diehard fans, it’s no wonder why WWE would want to push Goldberg at the expense of Owens, Lesnar and others given the overwhelmingly positive effect he’s had since his return.

F4WOnline.com noted that Survivor Series 2016, headlined by Goldberg vs. Lesnar, was the No. 5 most viewed showed on the WWE Network for the week of Jan. 23, a rarity for a show that is two months old and one that put it ahead of live original programming like 205 Live and Talking Smack. Going back to the week prior to Survivor Series, “Of the top 20, four of the shows related to Goldberg historical matches,” according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

In other words, throughout the entirety of his run since returning to WWE, there has been a demand for more Goldberg, with his presence clearly impacting TV ratings and WWE Network numbers in a beneficial way for WWE. That’s why, even though he’s never been known as a great wrestler or promo guy, his undeniable “it factor” has made him a key cog in the WWE machine.

:blessed: that's my GOATBreh

:whew: just imagine the numbers if he was gonna face Tommy Dreamer at Wrestlemania

The same thing was showing with Sting but obviously they had to get that last bite off the WCW carcass

Survivor Series 2014 did 100,000 buys but they were giving the network away for free and were openly advertising as a free month. Dude never came out to a meh reaction on wwe tv and his merch was moving well.

That said, I'm legit happy for Goldberg because above all else dude is one of the good guys from all appearances

He also agreed to it. Being the guy he is. I hate it went down like that myself.
