WWE is rumored to be announcing SummerSlam for Las Vegas, and a new report suggests that there may be a competition issue for their planned weekend. As reported on Friday, WWE is expected to make an announcement “imminently” about SummerSlam, with the expectation that it will take place on August 22nd at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Wrestling Inc reports that WWE may have some competition for the weekend as Manny Pacquiao will face Errol Spence Jr. at a highly-anticipated boxing match on Saturday, August 21st. The site reports that the fight may cause WWE to have issues filling the 60,000-capacity Allegiant Stadium, as Las Vegas has traditionally been a difficult market for wrestling and a major event taking place the night before may cause problems trying to fill the Stadium.
WWE does have other options in the city including T-Mobile Arena, which has a capacity of 15,000. WWE held one of their first Smackdown episodes when it moved to FOX in the venue and drew just 7,000 fans. MGM Grand Garden Arena and the Mandalay Bay Events Center are also potential options, but are both smaller venues for an event like SummerSlam.
WWE is hoping to hold the PPV in a tourist-heavy city so that fans could potentially fly in to see it, which would help fill the stadium. Again, WWE has yet to officially announced their SummerSlam date or location so nothing is confirmed as of yet

I booked my flight and hotel for this weekend today in hopes of catching both while I’m out there, but once I heard of the Pac Man vs Spence fight, I knew SunmerSlam days were gonna be numbered :francis:

they should switch venues, with the fight being held in Allegiant, and SS being held at T-Mobile arena. They’re likely going to change venues to NY though (MSG would be LIT honestly)

Bottom line is that Vegas isn’t a WWE touring city :yeshrug:

They’re not going to be “forced out” of the location regardless of how badly the dirt sheets want all things negativity when it comes to WWE :skip:

The boxing PPV is the night before. There’s also about 200 other shows that will happen that weekend in Vegas.

You think if there’s a chance they can’t fill that stadium to capacity they won’t move to a smaller venue? If one of their big 4 shows can’t sell out after having no fans since Mania, with the go ahead for full capacity it’ll hurt Vince’s ego.

Anything is possible, but during all of these shutdowns arenas and stadiums across the country have been giving discounted deals on rent. (Hence why WWE was able to justify filming at the Orlando Magic arena and Tampa Rays stadium despite have zero money via live gate revenue)

WWE and the Raiders stadium in Vegas likely already have the deal done. If ticket sales are weaker than expected, then all they have to do is block off the upper level.

Moving over to the 20,000 seat T-Mobile Arena wouldn’t make much sense.

The same day as Pacquiao vs Spence Jr? :gucci:

I wanted to attend both smh anyway, I booked my flights and hotel, I'm ready for some fukkey :mjlit:

WWE is planning on running Cena vs Roman as the main event. I wonder if this China/Taiwan fiasco changes anything
