During WWE Raw this week, the announce team referred to the live crowd in Los Angeles as “fans”, as opposed to “WWE Universe”, during the Roman Reigns and Rusev opening segment.

According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com and Wrestling Observer Radio, the change was deliberate and was done intentionally.

While Meltzer does not know if the use of the word “fans” as opposed to “WWE Universe” is a permanent change in WWE, he did have the following to say on changes being made to the Raw brand.

They’ve taken stock of things. Last week’s rating…believe it or not, after all the ratings, last week’s rating made them…I don’t know exactly everything but the verbiage isn’t supposed to be as bad now.”

Meltzer also pointed to the use of the entrance ramp and big screen to upgrade entrances as a way of trying to enhance the Raw brand.

It was a stupid forced phrase that never made any sense
Why did they start calling fans the WWE Universe in the first place I don't even remember

People who have a problem with this also think that changing WWF to WWE made a difference in the actual product. Like things would magically change back with the name

The Broken Matt Hardy saga in TNA is all the proof you need that you can go WAY out there and we'll gladly suspend disbelief and go along with it as fans if you stop pulling back the curtain and reminding us it's a "stage play"
