I haven't watched wrestling in like 15 years so I'm totally lost. Last night I threw on wrestle mania for my little cousin. I asked him who was the best and he said for raw it was John Cena and for smack down it was Roman rains.
I might've got it mixed up but my question is, did the wwf split up? I was confused. I remember everybody fighting regardless of what show they was on

Tsc means the squared circle, and you have the two wrestlers mixed up. They split the roster for both shows but it's still same company. Only a few events a year feature both brands.

Is there a reason for the split? Is 1 shows roster better than the other? Is 1 like the minor league and you get promoted to the other? For an event like summer slam, do they get the best from each show and have them face each other?

They instated the most recent brand split about a year ago due in part to the influx of outside indy talent and a desire to see the low ratings for the taped Smackdown show rise up to those of Raw live Mondays. They are now treated essentially as equals, with the "minor league" being NXT, which has its own weekly show and occassional PPV-style specials on WWE network.

They've had other similar brand splits in the past, the recent one is the first in about 5 years. Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, Summerslam and Survivor Series use both Raw and NXT rosters. The rest of the PPVs are brand-specific.
