A Casper man won’t serve time in prison for threatening two women and a sheriff's deputy with a handgun last month.
William Charles Martin said he was drunk when he wielded the gun at his daughter and ex-wife and didn’t mean to threaten them.

Martin pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless endangering and one count of possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent. Authorities originally charged Martin with aggravated assault but amended the charges to misdemeanors in exchange for the man’s guilty pleas.

Prosecutors can ask for up to one year of jail time and/or probation at the time of Martin’s sentencing.

Natrona County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on the 3600 block of Blue Sage Lane on March 22 after a woman called 911 to report Martin was abusing his daughter and had a gun, according to documents filed in circuit court.

Two deputies entered the home about 9:45 p.m. to find Martin standing in the kitchen facing two women. Martin drew a revolver and pointed it at one of the officers. He told the deputies “I have the right to shoot in my own house,” the documents state.

Martin slowly placed the gun on the ground after being asked to do so by the officers. Martin refused to walk away from the gun and deputies used a stun gun on him.

He later told authorities he drank a lot of Fireball whiskey on the night of the assault and did not remember pointing the gun at anyone.

Martin is out of jail on bond pending his sentencing hearing.
