I remember there were weeks and months we had to use a washcloth to brush/clean our teeth using only baking soda.



Washing clothes in the bath tub and hanging them on the balcony.



Couldn't afford mattresses so we slept on box springs!


Eating refrigerator pie...what's that? Leftover mixed with canned veggies and instant mashed potatoes put on top and baked


Y'all wasn't there with me



Teachers buying me school lunch

Doing homework under candle light cause the lights turned off


having the kids look at me cause I had on Payless shoes....


Sleeping in your winter coats cause it freezing


Then ya Dad drive by you at the bus stop dropping off his other kid from his new familythey had on Jordans we couldn't even afford the socks....

I remember the beating I got cause Mama gave me $5 to walk to Mr Russell Corner store for quarter pound of summer sausage and cheddar for supper and I ain't see Brenea (my crush) outside. I knock on the door and Ms. Francis answered the door wiping snot off her mouth. I ain't know at the time. She seen the five in my hand and offered to "Lick My Tallywacker". It sounded fun so I gave it to her. I was just turning 9 man.....they were so big and black and veiny...I called them black circles....Now I call em Areolas.

We ain't know...we just wanted to be away from raggedy ass Shreveport. Africa had Kings and Queens. We ain't have sidewalks on the Cooper Road so the gutter was our playground
