Report: Yahoo in Talks to Buy Major League Gaming - Breitbart

According to sources close to New York based E-sports organisation Major League Gaming, the company is currently in sales talks with California tech giant Yahoo for an undisclosed fee.
The move comes amid an increasing number of companies looking to invest in the growing world of broadcast competitive gaming.

“The talks are quite advanced and are about 95% complete,” one source informed Breitbart. “MLG have already been making plans for the future, especially in regards to CS:GO. The deal should be wrapped up before 2016.”

Isn't MLG dead? No one cares about Halo and CoD, LoL and Dota are closed shops and Go is already saturated tournament wise. What else is there?

Seems like it died with SC2.

its not dead, but its not what it once was. Dreamhack, ESL, etc all are bigger but MLG has been getting a streaming service (like twitch) off the ground this past year and been paying some big streamers (nadeshot mainly) to stream there exclusively.

Yahoo might see the opportunity and with more money available can pay big time streamers a set amount of money a year (comparable to what they make on Twitch through donations/subscriptions, but a set salary, if that makes sense) to stream exclusivley to MLG services and steal them from twitch and rake in advertisement dollars (thats what all this is about anyway)

example;

if big time streamer makes $30k a month between donations, subscriptions and ad revenue from twitch. Yahoo might offer them say, $25k a month over 2 years (a contract) and say "you dont have to rely on donations, subscriptions, etc." and of course they can still make money off youtube videos

If Yahoo can set a budget of $10-15 million or so to steal big time streamers they might double that in advertisement dollars from people watching them play on MLG (if that makes sense)

You telling me they didn't fall off when SC2 died and Lol/Dota became the next big thing?

I hadn't heard of MLG for like two years. :francis: And they are getting into Cs late as fukk.

they were the main organization for COD for American teams, over sea teams had way bigger tournaments with bigger cash prizes and crowds, even during MLG main days.

MLG felt more like a well organized local tournament than a big time tournament but, still, it has a place and with Yahoo money can make a push to be back in the spot light (I think Yahoo is seeing how much money shyt like Dream Hack, Blizzcon, etc + twitch is making and wants in)
