My mom and grandma was best of friends. My grandma kept the family they family. Granny passed in 2011. Things aint been the same, a lot of arguments and chaos. My momma is the only one barely keeping her side of the family up. Once she stops its over.
I think feminism and not seeing the value in having men around has ruining the Black family is a lot of ways. My dad side had a lot of husbands in it. Things were always organized and no chaos.

When my aunt, who was 40 at the time, introduced her future husband to the family, I went to the gathering and they had pizza delivered instead of a home cooked meal. I was sitting there thinking this is embarrassing. We took a family wide L. My grandmother back in the day would have filled the whole table twice over. They didn't care. Same for when people move house, get sick and so forth. It's me and my old father taking the helm. Too "modern and enlightened" for those types of things. They'll make an app group to show off their holiday or concert photos with the quickness though.

I'll admit I don't know how to grill, but I been doing research and I'm getting into it now because there's something about cooking healthy food on an open fire. Salmon, chicken, and grill vegetables. And I just learned how to use a chimney making shyt easier. I want to cop a blackstone next.
But you really don't see that age group grilling.
I think it depends on if the person you know owns a house or not. You need a house to grill, it's a MUST.

Did Grandma have to work 40 hours a week and commute? Unfortunately today, cost of living is high and requires 2 working people if you want to get ahead.

No I don't get sad. I don't think the sassy overbearing big momma archetype isn't going anywhere honestly IMO.
A lot of the "Big mommas" were just regular ordinary hoes when they were young and eventually aged out the game and turned to religion to get over the hurt and shame from their past. Kinda how you see Chrisean Rock or Blacc Chyna. Though the perception of big momma is this innocent church lady who will do anything for their community and families. I think that's a facade and front to get past the foul shyt a lot of them did in their past. That's why when you dig into the family history and why this family member doesn't like that one. It boils down to hoodrat shyt going back to big momma and auntie/uncle. Nothing new under the sun
I grew up Methodist, AME became a minister of music at one point and a lot of the big mommas ain't shyt TBH. Church just becomes the new club.
