I have to admit I'm kind of loss on what to do from here. I just graduated from LSU in finance, I had a 2.88 GPA, a 3.2 in finance courses. I had no internship, no experience beside working at Home Depot as a sales associate, and I'm loss. I recently applied for a management trainee in Enterprise and they sent me a rejection email, prolly because it's a management postition. I kno some of y'all work in the finance field can y'all help a coli breh out on where to go?

What should I be studying and working towards to put myself in better position?

It'll help you have a job and that's what's most important while you're on the search for better opportunities.
I'm not a bad worker or anything but I don't think the managers see me in that way. They knew I was graduating and they never brought it up.

see what Finance/ Banking companies are near you. via indeed or linked in.

Go to indeed: click the resumes tab & search those companies to see other jobs people have held

You can also use that tactic to tighten up your own resume.

holla at an employment agency that specializes in finance/banking... especially those looking for new graduates

good luck

Well LSU is a Flagship University in a region that's growing economically. Why don't you tap into your alumni networks? I'm confident LSU has a career center and a career link group which advertises jobs specifically for LSU graduates. Also, since you're an alumnus it should be free and last forever.

You have a great opportunity with LSU in the south. Keep your head up.

LinkedIn, Indeed, and Alum Network (great things mentioned above).

Your GPA will make it tough to get into big firms but it's still worth a try and also nothing wrong with starting at a smaller place where you can get more hands on experience.

Use linkedin to connect with recruiters that focus on finance gigs. You can also try small firms in investment banking, wealth/asset management, big 4/non big 4 accounting firms, and economic consulting firms

what city/state do you live in OP? look for temp/contract positions til u get ur experience up
post your resume on job boards like indeed, career builder, monster, michael page, efinancialcareers

you have a degree in finance, what do u want to do? i wouldnt go for enterprise, prudential etc management positions.
try to get into a bank hedge fund or asset manager. or finance focused company like etrade, american express etc
or...aim to get into the finance department as a financial analyst in a company like mercedes benz/chrystler, target, sony, microsoft..anything but them branch manager shyts. getting rejected from that was for a reason, you got a higher ceiling than that

good luck breh :salute:

EDIT -

you from New Orleans?
look into getting into finance depts in some energy/gas companies around there if that sort of thing is big in ur area.

don't worry about your GPA. just omit that fact from your job applications. I never had particularly good grades, and I don't think any job has ever asked me about it. they simply wanna know that you graduated college.

don't work enterprise. you will work like a slave. last time I rented a car, the dude at the front desk had to wash the fukking car in his dress slacks and button down :mindblown:

try to get a job at a bank that's not a teller. my boy had a finance degree and he ended up as a commodities broker and is now a financial advisor at bank of america. in order to get that second job, he took two classes/test to get two licenses he needed for it last summer prior to applying.

also, his FIRST job outta college was some entry level position at hewitt

Hewitt Associates - Wikipedia

they do something with HR, but he only has a bachelor's in finance.

my sister has a bachelors in finance and bachelor's in accounting. but she also has a CPA and has worked for one of the big four accounting firms. she currently works at wells fargo and makes bread.
