Y’all notice people are watching tv shows more than films?

Why do you think that is? On Netflix tending or all you hear about people watching the new season of this, or a crazy new show, etc

it’s been like this for less than a decade now. I told myself I’m going to watch less “pointless shows” and focus more on documentaries and docuseries. The only shows I do watch are those that 100% appeal to me

We leave a bunch of movies on our “my list” and on the back burner but we’ll jump on a bunch of shows.

It’s very rare to watch a show that is 5 star from beginning to end.

how many times have we watched shows and invested 5 seasons of dozens of hours that was completely pointless and was above mediocre

Almost every critically acclaimed series that I watched and liked had some serious flaw, often to the point of not wanting to rewatch. And yeah, it does feel like a waste sometimes.

Movies are much more likely to reach "near flawless" status for me.

TV offers a wider variety of choices on a mainstream level compared to most movies which tend to favor certain types of films. Of course there are plenty of diverse movies, you just might have to dig somewhat deeper.

I don't look at TV shows as needing to be flawless pieces of work from beginning to end. Some seasons will be better than others, some shows will start out great then fade out. Others will improve as they go along. As long as I'm being entertained along the way and still invested in the characters, I don't consider anything pointless or a waste. Even if a show has a disappointing ending, or gets canceled after one season if I was entertained or discovered an actor I wasn't familiar with before it wasn't a waste for me.

I don’t really watch much TV series. I actually find a lot of TV programming dull.

Netflix, etc. To me, there hasn’t really been any good TV series in a while. They all suffer from redundancy and poor writing.

they also seem less artistic, unlike some cinematic pieces.

Shows like Breaking Bad took away the stigma of TV instead of movies. IIRC, Anthony Hopkins jumped into WestWorld because he was inspired by what Bryan Cranston did. It's really a lot more skilled and nuanced imo... you get to build characters over longer timeframes than a 2 hour movie.

Also though, people watch movies more than TVs because there are more hours of mainstream TV shows available than mainstream movies. There are more and more TV channels getting less and less of the overall population watching live and so onDemand becomes an alternative

I've watched TV more than film for years, mostly because I can watch a tv show while I eat and get right back to work. I watch movies only at night but not every night.

Thrillers mostly, because the endings and the story lines are jagged enough where you don’t always see the “typical” ending.

a lot of movies/shows out there are very cyclical with their stories but I find thrillers and mysteries and some drama typically manage to escape the redundancy other genres possess

For me right now, it's because I can kill a lot more time watching TV shows. I would have to find 6 or 7 movies to equal 1 season of a TV show.

That being said, TV shows often have filler episodes which can be annoying.
