Ya'll think Will Smith's real father was mad about that Fresh Prince episode?

By all accounts, Will Smith's real dad was a hardworking businessman who raised his family in a nice Philly neighborhood. Yet so many people probably thought he was a deadbeat based on that Fresh Prince episode and how good Will's acting was in that scene :francis:

:yeshrug:Don't matter. All I know is I felt that shyt then, and to an extent, feel it now. My father clearly didn't want me, or he would have been around
when I needed him most. A great deal of us know this feeling. Unless there is more to the story between my mother and him...:jbhmm:

You guys must be young. Will talked about him a lot going back to teh 90s. Might be able to find that "brick wall" story he told. Will's real life dad was nothing like the TV show. Sounded like pops from CB4 to be honest.

You people must not understand what acting is. :snoop:
Only an idiot would have thought he had a deadbeat dad in real life.

You'd be surprised
The Real Story Behind the Most Heartbreaking Scene in 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air'

A rumour circulated around the Internet that Will Smith actually had a bad upbringing and his father was never actually around.

That awful moment when you learn that this wasn’t scripted. That Will Smith’s character was actually supposed to brush off the whole thing, but Will’s father actually had left him when he was younger and he just fell apart on the set and the hug at the end was from one actor to another, not one character to another.

His dad was a deadbeat.

That's kind of the point of him moving to with his aunt & uncle.:manny:

Nah, Will's dad in real life was a good dude.

But in actuality his father had a major influence in his life. According to an Essence interview, Will Smith explained what his father was like. “Dad was tough but not tyrannical,” Smith told Essence. “He kept me in line. He’d get this look that said, ‘One more step, Will, and it’ll get ugly.’ He was an independent businessman-he set up refrigeration in supermarkets-and he always provided for us. He’s a steady and positive figure in my life.”

Wasn't the whole show based on Benny Medina?

If anything wouldn't his father be more upset about the scene than Will's?

This was in the 90s before people got all their info on the Internet. Just think of how many stupid rumors circulated that everyone believed when we were growing up lol
