It's going to be a scandalous night in America on Thursday; especially so in metro Detroit.
Hundreds of people, mostly women, will gather to watch the premiere season 4 of "Scandal" and the debut of "How To Get Away With Murder" while celebrating the force behind both shows, award-winning writer and producer Shonda Rhimes.
The "Thank Goodness It's Shonda Rhimes Thursday" viewing party and fundraiser will be held at the Maple Theater in Bloomfield Hills.
The organizers, the Renaissance Chapter of Links, Inc., a community-service and sisterhood organization comprised mostly of black women, has a special affinity for Rhimes who also writes "Grey's Anatomy."
They applaud Rhimes for creating shows that bring images of powerful, smart, beautiful women of color into America's houses and hearts.

"Shonda Rhimes is bringing women of color to television in empowering and engaging ways," says Leslie Gordon, one of the organizers of the viewing party. "There's such a shortage of roles and opportunities for black actresses. And the fact that she is able to bring such creative and powerful images to network TV has been phenomenal."

That's why Gordon, 45, of West Bloomfield, along with other Renaissance Links members created the party.
"It's a way to wrap our arms around her and celebrate her," Gordon says of Rhimes who has given key roles to Kerry Washington (Olivia Pope on "Scandal"), Sandra Oh (Dr. Christina Yang on "Grey's Anatomy") and Viola Davis (who will be Professor Annalise Keating on the new "How To Get Away With Murder").
The Renassaince Links is asking every attendee to bring a new children's book to the party to be donated to one of its community-service projects, the Book Nook at the DMC Hutzel-Harper Hospital.
Thursday's party will mark the second annual viewing party for the opening of the "Scandal" season. The first one, held last year, attracted almost 200 people, says Gordon, head of LeslieWrites, LLC, a marketing and public relations firm.

"The friend-raiser allows women and men who are fans of Shonda Rhimes to come together to celebrate Kerry Washington, Viola Davis and, of course, Shonda Rhimes" Gordon says.
The party begins with a one-hour pre-show reception at 7:30 p.m., followed by screening of "Scandal" at 9 and "How to Get Away With Murder" at 11. p.m.
Tickets to the fundraising viewing party are $35.
