Edit: Friendly fire was on another passenger in the truck that survived. Guy I mentioned was shot in the head by return fire and they dumped the body

Yep, that's what was goin around.
Looks like it was cleared up during the trial though goin by this AHH article. The friend got shot in the head by return fire and they dumped him out the truck, someone else in the truck got shot by friendly fire, but he lived.
