Interview: YG Talks Building Buzz, Working With Young Jeezy, and Growing Up in L.A. | Complex

That 'R.I.P.' song he has was supposed to be my single. I did like three or four verses for that song but I wasn’t feeling it so he ended up putting it on his mixtape

YG Explains Why He Passed on the "Rack City" Beat - XXL
Did you ever regret passing on it because it became such a smash?
Nah. When I heard the beat, the beat was bangin’, but after Tyga had sent it back, I knew I wasn’t finna come up with no shyt like how he came up with the “Rack City” shyt. That shyt was meant to be.

also I'm Different

this guy got DJ Mustard as his primary producer and DJ and lets others get hits off him :dead:

meh...Those beats wouldn't have done a damn thing for him the endless other random Mustard beats he's rhymed over haven't done already...objectively, they're just as dope far as the beat goes...nothing outstanding about Rack City or RIP compared to most Mustard beats...the difference between Jeezy or Tyga rapping over a DJ Mustard beat and them turning to hits and YG rhyming over a DJ Mustard beatand being just regional hits at best, has to do more with where they're at respectively as acts...more than the differences in the individual beats....

just like Pusha T came out and said how he passed on the N!qqas In Paris beat...it's not like had he taken it instead of Hov and Ye he would've had a massive hit instead of them, it would've just been another random Pusha T song that got praised on the internet for a week and then forgotten about...meanwhile, you swap Pusha out for Kanye on that song with Future Pain or Millions with Ross ...same beat and hook and features...and it's a massive hit

maybe he aint good enough to come up with the concept, hook, and melody for the song.... just cuz u have the beat dont mean nothin

Which is exactly what YG said lol.

He passed on Rack City because he didnt think he could come up with anything better. And as already stated even if he did come up with soemething better that YMCMB/Wayne/Drake/Nikki push is gonna do a HELL OF ALOT more for a Tyga single than YG doing a single.
