how arent they catching anything
From what she said, because its during non-outbreak, and she's on meds which suppresses the virus and lowers it's count. it's most contagious during outbreak. the chances are reduced significantly when there isn't one. most carriers only have 1 outbreak per year on average depending on their immune system. this is why some people can go years without knowing they even have the virus or have an outbreak.
the problem is some of them have a sort of 'silent' break out, where it's not too visible, they might see a pimp (like the ones you might get after shaving) and assume it's that, but is in fact a herp, this silent outbreak is when most people catch it from someone. they are contagious when they're on the brink of having an outbreak, so even if their immune system manage it before a full outbreak, that 2 days of it almost breaking out is still a 'silent outbreak'. This critical moment is when people are catching the virus. those silent outbreaks.
Other people however, like those that have had it for awhile can tell right off the bat. I guess she was one of those people.

I had asked her a few questions because it was the first time knowing someone with it, and wanted to be educated.
