Totally agree. Face is a better writer to me than Pac (actually, way better writer) but Pac has more songs I fukk with. And I'd rather listen to Pac overall than Face.
That's crazy. Nas is so replayable it's not even funny. I think I've probably heard a Nas song every single day or just about since 2003.
His beats (the great ones) are just fukkin incredible.
Whereas I have to be in a certain mood to hear Pac. And don't get me wrong - I love some Pac songs. He's got a cool discog but I rarely play his shyt.
A lot of this stuff is personality. And that's what's so great about hip hop
when it's good. It gave you glimpses into so many different personalities that brothas have. I love Redman's music. Same with some of Pac's. So I can listen to them and be like them for 4 minutes and some seconds. But I'm not like them so I don't play their music as often.
Nas (and Queens dudes in general) is more like me. I love the grimy shyt, but something about it has to be cerebral and atmospheric.
I respect that.
I respect that and it makes sense. It's interesting that you would say that Nas's rap style is like a woman. I don't disagree with you in the sense that Nas is semi-flowery and eloquent, but I think it's all relative. To me, bytching loudly in fits of rage is like a woman. Men don't move like that. Men are calculated, strike when they have to.
So one hand I agree with you that Pac can be like male warrior music in a way Nas can never be. But the flip side is that Pac can be juelzing all over a track like a bytch in a way Nas (or most men I know) never would.
Totally agree, but then there's too simple. Pac is too simple for me at times. Nas is perfect in the complex/simplicity thing because the images are clear, simple and beautiful, but underneath have complexity if you choose to look at them that way..
Never cared for Brenda's Got A Baby. It's like a bad RnB record to me. And the idea is fairly mundane.
When a nikka says:
"Freedom or jail, clips inserted, a baby's being born
Same time a man is murdered - the beginning and end."
and does it with a great voice, swagger over a divine beat....That's some other shyt!! It's not just "oh there's violence in my community, my boy got shot" or "I was shot." As Cam famously said, "nikkas get shot everyday, B". At this stage, it's a 'who cares'. But to talk about violence and put it in a way that shows this is the mystical cycle of life (birth, death) in the projects is like

And the nikka did that shyt in one fukkin line!

And Nas has tons of these type of profound lines throughout his catalogue.
Bottom line, Nas is way more mystical than Pac and I like that. To me, that's the highest level of rapping. Rakim lineage shyt. It's like you can see the past, present and future. That's next level. We can all be emotional but how many of us can see way beyond ourselves and connect important dots that people don't necessarily notice/think about? That's the question.
Great discussion, breh.

Who are the top 5 hip hop artists you find yourself listening to the most? Doesn't matter if it's current or old-school. I'm just talking about what you actually play on a daily basis.
