Bambaataa always says rapping has always been here. Cab Calloway, "when God was talking to Noah" etc i guess you could call this rapping if you want but i wouldn't call it Hip Hop, just a guy talking God nonsense to the beat. anytime you want to have a lot of words in your song & get a lot of information across in a short amount of time it's gonna sound like rapping because you just can't sing that amount of words

Another song about Noah:dwillhuh:
that's just something that i've heard Bambaataa say before. he's basically saying rap has always been here, it's just been in different forms. he says like Cab Calloway was rapping in his own way "hidey-hidey-ho" and Shakespeare is like rap. i saw it in an old doco from the mid 90s i'm trying to find footage of him saying it now, he's said it a number of times.

here's the doco i was talking about. it's a big tv series from BBC about the history of Rock n Roll & they go into Hip Hop in ep 8 or 9. they do a pretty good job actually, i remember watching this on tv back in like 96 maybe. i'm sure this is where i heard Bambaataa say this but i don't know where it is in the video, you should watch it tho, it's a good doco.

edit: my bad, i skipped through this & the other parts of the Hip Hop section of that doco, doesn't look like that's the right one. good doco about Hip Hop tho, they mainly talk to Russell Simmons, Run DMC, Rick Rubin, they talk to & about the Beasties, De La Soul, NWA, then after the De La part they go into talking about Techno music.
