At this point, I don't think Dre had intentions of ever putting out Detox. Sure, he probably records music, but there's no need in talking about it if the fans don't hear it. Detox just seems like a project to troll the industry at this point.

If it was about sales, he could just throw Eminem on some singles and get a platinum plaque out of it. If it was about building the album around a new artist, he's had 50 (2003), The Game (2005), and Kendrick (2012).

If he ever puts it out, it will never live up to the hupe. Let that shyt just be an Urban Legend, forever.

If Kendrick and Black Hippy are to Detox, what Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound were to The Chronic it could reach expectations imo.

50 Cent's comments on "Detox" release date a couple of years ago:
"Man I recorded songs for Detox 5 years ago."

I say this all the time but I really think one of the things holding Detox up is that he doesn't want to go out and do all the things an artist has to do when releasing a project. Dude is a producer at heart and likes being in the studio as opposed to someone like Puff who pretty much makes a lot of money just on being famous and being out there.

Dre is making so much money from his other ventures, Beats By Dre & god knows what else he doesn't feel like being an artist, doing promo tours, constant interviews, basically being famous again (not that he isn't famous now), but dropping a album puts you in the spotlight like no other.

Then there's everything else that everyone else already knows. Him being a perfectionist. Him having a perfect catalog and so on.
