I don't remember this uproar for the Distant Relatives album!

Mos def
Talib kweli
Common
Consequence
Rhymefest
Kid cudi*

Made you hot... But you want Jay Z attention so bad

Now the 2 chainz/Big Sean buzz is dying and you back on your BS

BYE KANYE!

I normally dont like to get into these "So and so rapper did it first" arguments because people feel like you just sound bitter or a hater and lets be honest: Everyone is inspired or copied by others.

But I wont lie, after seeing a lot of praise online and around after yesterday's performance, specfically on the lyrics, I was like "yeah..but Mos, Nas and them have done that too"

Thing you gotta remember is Kanye is more mainstream than them and in the now and so the mainstream audience who knows and might be young or unaware of those other acts is gonna call him innovative and the music media still champions him.

And to be fair, he is a bold and interesting mainstream artist so I get why the praise is warranted.

Even with the other dudes who made records like that, they in turned were inspired and probably jacked an MC before them too.

It did make me wish other got more praise but its all in a name in order to get your backing.

Im not even sure what to think of Kanye's messy new sound/Black rock angle cause even that feels done before (Skunk Ananse, Mykki Blanco etc) but I guess you could say he's being interested.

He is starting to feel more and more like the Lady Gaga of Hip Hop and thats not necessairly a diss either.

Marketing genius, of course. When his original GOOD crew wasn't poppin he aligned himself with 2 Chainz, and began to push Big Sean (Who used to be a weed carrying/ghost writer)

What happened to Cudi?

Rhymefest is in the hood, running for City Council.. Thats real, what happened to Rhyme?

Where is Consequence?

Where is Black Star?

Mos just dropped a dope project with Mannie.. I don't hear Ye pushing or co signing the project.

Dude wants to get back on his "All Falls Down" "Two Ways"...

nahhh stay in Paris W/ Euro Hove

I get all that, look I'mma nas stan and I always point to how long he's been around and how he still has number 1 albums when I point to his relevance
(Hell, he got a massive shoutout on Criminal Minds just this past week)

But what I am saying is Kanye has everyone's attention from a super super mainstream pop image standpoint, so whether understanbly or unfairly he's gonna bet praised by people who may not even know others have done it before him.

And its always sorta been that way across music. You know how it goes

If I Ruled The World

Streets Dreams remix

and The Hate Me Now Video where Nas portrayed Christ and was hung off a cross at argubaly the height of his popularity

> Kanye trying to get in touch with his old gimmick at the tail end of his career.

Mainstream is mainstream

selling more records is a different discusssion
