I've recently been doing my reflecting and came to the realization that the people in my circle aren't encouraging or inspiring me to be the best version of my myself. Not that my trajectory is determined by those around me because ultimately it comes down to my own motivation and drive to achieve my goals but I do believe that having a supportive circle can give you that extra boost you might need to make it past the finish line.
When I look at some of my friends and family, although they are 'nice' it seems as though they'd rather me play the background and stay at an unfulfilling, easy, well paying job instead of aspiring for a fulfilling, challenging, well paying job. They'd rather see me travel locally than to somewhere halfway across the globe to expand my view of the world and myself. They'd rather me be normal than dynamic.
When it comes to the people in my circle pursuing their goals, even if they aren't goals that I have or align with mine, I still try to be encouraging to the them. I may add a little suggestion of ways they could push themselves a little further or think outside the box a bit but ultimately if they are pursuing what makes them happy then I'm happy for them. I just find it strange the same energy doesn't get reciprocated.
For the coli, what are ways you have found to connect locally with more positive and/or ambitious people? Do you find the "sum of your friends" theory holds true or not so much?
