You Can Go Back... but here’s the catch.

So you’re granted the ability to go back to any point in the past and rewrite history. You can take enough items to fill a duffle bag. You can take technology, weapons, sports almanacs, schematics, etc. So you could effectively change the course of mankind, “invent” new technologies, make yourself a supreme ruler or be a very “lucky” gambler.

Here’s the catch...

You have to face yourself if you’re going back to your past or a direct progenitor if you’re going farther back and watch them be erased from time as you take their place. So if you’re going back to the 1800s, you may end up a slave with a bag of goods. If you’re going back 20 years, you have to watch young you die and vanish while you take their place.

That means all family coming from that person is gone. You are now effectively them.

Would you do it? Where would you go? What would you take?

I would just go back to the summer after 5th grade with a bunch of stock and other financial history. Powerball numbers. Cell phone tech and a notebook filled with money making inventions that have happened since.

Not only would I be rich, but I would correct stupid decisions I've made since then and be better adjusted as well as living out my childhood again. This is a no brainer.

I'm going back to replace myself at 5, with a notebook filled with stock tips. Any technology could alter the timeline too much, I think. Too much attention on the crazy inventions of someone with no prior knowledge of basic engineering. But hand the notebook to your father, opened to page 1 where it says to follow the path quietly, and get back to playing with your action figures.
