what attention did he bring? what change did he bring for african american athletes? While I don't think one person is crucial for the civil rights movement, Colin's attention to continued efforts of injustice against African Americans can't be understated or overlooked.
The simple fact that the NFL can play black Americans Anthem while downplaying the mis justice of Kaepernick in NFL is just![]()
It’s been 5 years since he’s had a snap? What player you know could take 5 years off and still expect a job when he returned? And one who wasn’t an elite player to begin with?
The anthem is being played to placate black people. Just like the NBA had the BLM sponsored bubble playoffs two seasons ago. They only do symbolic gestures for black people. Nothing concrete that will actually bring progression for the community as a whole..
And Rosa Parks and the SNCC present what she did as an organized protest or pretend as if she was tired and couldn’t take it anymore? I don’t care about symbolic gestures. Where’s the plan for action? And I’m not looking to sports figures to take action on the behalf of me either. I’d advise them to get their money, take care of their families and help in ways they believe they can on their own time. With that said if they’re going to step in that ring then their words (or lack of words when it comes to Kap) and actions will be scrutinized.
All Kap did was start “protesting” once he was benched. He has NEVER said anything insightful or done anything to combat the issues he claimed to be about (I don’t count donating)... It’s a low bar when you start including him with civil rights leaders

,

They gon get real mad and emotional you talk about that boy Kaep.Curt Flood took his case all the way to the Supreme Court. No MLB settlement payments. No Nike deal. No Netflix deal. No fashion covers.
He paved the way for what would become free agency in all of professional sports.

Colin got payed $160 million by Nike
He never really risked his life
It hurt his career for sure, but he didn't really do much else active beyond that.
He obviously had an influence, but I don't know if he should be given the same reverence to this who actually risked their lives.

, when did you 1980-90s baby's change the "supposed standard" (as if it ever existed)? Y'all disingenuous...

I'm not saying what he did doesn't deserve recognition. Are we serious right now? Risking your life is the standard for being recognized for civil rights?, when did you 1980-90s baby's change the "supposed standard" (as if it ever existed)? Y'all disingenuous...
The simple fact you can recognize the protest hurt his career but state all the other BS...
