I wish byd was allowed to sell in the US. I always wondered if the lived up to the hype.

Washington should have let China open up factories here. They could have did what China did to the big 3 and other companies. Byd could manufacture and sell cars here as long as they partner with an American company. Too bad an idea like that would never fly

The American auto industry would be dead if BYD set up shop here.
I got into one of those cars on a trip in Mexico. Its over if they start selling here.

Aug 25 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that China has to give the United States magnets or "we have to charge them 200% tariff or something" amid a trade dispute between the two nations.

China is increasingly sensitive about rare earths and its control over supply, adding several rare earth items and magnets to its export restriction list in April in retaliation to tariff hikes by the United States.

⚠️ BREAKING: A U.S. appeals court just ruled Trump’s global tariffs illegal.

He bypassed Congress. Declared fake emergencies. Taxed the world.

And now? The courts confirmed what we already knew—this was never about national security. It was about unchecked power.

No more kings.

🚨 MASSIVE BREAKING: Appeals Court Rules Trump’s Tariffs Were Illegal

“We have no kings in America.” That’s the message delivered loud and clear today as the Federal Circuit ruled that President Trump’s use of global tariffs was unlawful, marking a major blow to executive overreach.

@MemberBlasts
Why shouldn't it take effect immediately?

If it wasn't legal, it should be revoked ASAP so American businesses can experience RELIEF from these taxes,

Especially given that Felon Trump is going to continue fighting this like the crybaby loser he is!

Focusing on respectful dialogue and shared values helps us build a stronger, more united community. Divisive language and false narratives only deepen divides. Let’s prioritize trust in our institutions and work together for solutions that benefit everyone.

@907BTC
They also said they were leaving the tariffs in place while the case moved forward…. Because truth matters

This is great news!

@DYoffee
We have the dumbest President ever in Donald Trump, he thinks Tariffs imposed by the USA against other Countries is paid for by other Countries and not by American Companies and American Consumers

21/30
@dhill_y
It was always just a money grab. Trump and his administration manipulated the markets to make themselves richer at American taxpayer’s expense. Trump should have to pay back taxpayers out of the over 2 Billion he’s made since taking office.

22/30
@OlsonCathie
However, will there be consequences? So far, this maniac is running unchecked!

We needed this ruling against tariffs.
There are too many people losing jobs and prices are increasing due to tariffs.
I hope the prices will go down and we can get Christmas presents without

The "operative word" is appeals court.

@xray_media
They called it "Liberation Day." Turns out it was a declaration of war on the Constitution, waged with tariffs. A rather expensive misunderstanding for American families and the rule of law.

The Federal Circuit confirmed on Aug 29 that IEEPA grants no such power, dismantling the legal fiction behind the April 2 "Liberation Day" tariffs. While this admin was taxing Americans an extra $1,200-$2,800 this year, it was also granting China a 63% approval rate on product exclusions.

The bill for this constitutional overreach has arrived. The damage to the rule of law is the real deficit.

Not exactly in line with the Trump tariffs (but is related to taxes):

My local county, of which my city is the chair, decided to ignore the tax assessments they paid for for the 2026 budget. The recommendation was a change in property tax reallocation relief fund of which two cities would pay $5000 each and the budgets for everything for 2026 could go up, particularly for schools. Instead, the county council ignored the recommendation and decided to give every county worker a 6% increase, and give all sheriff deputies an 11% bonus.

This totals to roughly $2 MILLION taken out of the budget for 2026, in an area where basically all services other than electricity and water (regular boil notices aside) have been completely gutted and shut down since COVID, including a number of major programs (Medicaid/Care, SNAP, Section 8/HUD, food banks, etc) almost assuredly illegally cut or frozen during the DOGE cuts before anything was officially cut or stopped. Meanwhile, all the taxes will be going up, with none of the services going up. Old ladies getting their SNAP and SSI cut 80% type shyt this year, and will surely be worse next year.

Then take in the tariffs, that are going to (already are in some areas) annihilate both the Bible and Rust belts next year and this county is going to be a fukking disaster. It's going to be a lot worse than people already think. It's going to be some version of Russia's shock therapy after the fall of the USSR, but the oligarchs already have all the money.

By this time last year, China purchased $3.16 billion of U.S. soybeans.

They have not bought a soybean from the U.S. in over 3 months.

Zero.
