From Talib's point of view he just rocked with who gave him his start. He was a Rawkus artist from jump. He should leave because Bad Boy is showing him love after he made a hit? I'm sure he was like, "Thanks but I'm doing fine.'
He didn't diss Talib Kweli. This was him using Talib Kweli as an example of how backpackers and purists are quick to dismiss the artists they once championed AFTER they gain any hint of success. He tells the story of how he saw people say Talib Kweli was a sellout because of "Get By" and the "Get By" remix.

That "they selling out" was a certain suburban demo joining in on the culture creating a narrative to separate.
Then you had the posers who would mimic said narrative.
Puffy was always hip hop. He just figured out the marketing and hit making scheme, by hook or crook.
D Dot is a prime example.
I never liked or acknowledged the term "backpacker" until it became evident as a "sub culture" within the actual culture, or, purist attitude began to develop due to the transition of our beloved conscious/boom bap that became popular and commercially palatable.
Its like you have jiggy and gangster/street, everything else is backpack.
The whole aspect is quiet absurd if you ask me.
