Muscle Shoals, Al???:what:
Yes sir, that’s where Motown artists mostly recorded, Fame studios is one of the most famous studios in the world, right in muscle Shoals,AL. A lot of the popular songs you heard from R&B, rock, or blues in the 70’s more than likely came from muscles shoals. The Allman brothers band even formed their band in Muscle Shoals before they moved to Macon, Georgia

Who doesn’t know about Muscle Shoals? Johnny Taylor had a recording session there.

That sound that the people loved worldwide came from that town. I delivered in that area on an old job and didn't realize back then, but I did see the recording studios over there. Kind of crazy. I always wondered where that saying "The stars fell on Alabama" came from.

That sound didn't just come from that town. You can actually trace those sounds back to Memphis and the Mississippi Delta. Other cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., St Louis, etc., also contributed to Soul music/R&B sound, but all of that stuff comes out of the Blues and Gospel music.

I'm just talking about those specific recordings. That's what the producers were saying back in the day. They would even fly the musicians out to other places to record. Had a specific sound they were looking for on certain songs.

We know black folks all around created the sound. Those musicians just put it together in a specific way people liked. When the black artists are working with you, you got it.

Thats interesting to me….

I only been to Alabama one time and it were to see my little cuz graduate……

To say the least.…. that was an “experience“ for me…..

That was one of the few times in my life I REALLY felt the weight of racism true PREJUDICE.

MS felt soooooooo 1950s, some of the black folks I saw there looked like they was just freed from Slavery and looking at me and my mom like we were Django in a blue suit on a plantation.

And the white folks just looked at me with looks of “who is this uppity n———?” Atleast that was the vibe I got maybe cuz how I carried myself out there.

I know my cuz was like 1 of 20 blacks that graduated at this school and the grad class was close to 200. Which that was a cultural shock for me

My high school was basically 50/50 black and white.
He must have been in a suburb somewhere, or a majority white town.

I wish I can remember the school he attended. This was years ago though in all fairness….. like a decade or more and I know stuff changes

Like my HS when I was there was like 65% black 30% white (and we had like poor whites to Abrocrombie & Fitch type white folks) 3%Latino 2%Asian. I think there was like 1 asian cat that graduated with me and like 4 Hispanics

And

For context… when goth was big in that era…. We only had like 4 goth peeps that stood out like crazy.

Now 2 decades after I graduated, when I go back to my school for nostalgia shyt like homecoming or BBALL….. it be mad Mexicans out there :russ:

Muscle Shoals is just where they went and did recording sessions. It is like they do in Country music when they record in Austin, Texas. It is not indicative of anything, except what specific producers liked.

It was a collection of good musicians. Black and white.

History tells you what you need to know about it. A bunch of hit records came out of there.

We'll leave it at that. Back to the music.
