You noticed the Youtube algo has changed?

Its quite recent but if you try searching for something its obvious expanding its scope beyond the usual narrow band of results. Makes me wonder if they're adding in info from a new tracking source/data shaping as the results it returns are way more diffuse than they used to be.

Its subtle but you can pick it out as a few recommendations may have nothing at all to do with the topic at hand. Also the really low view count vids are getting pushed much harder on the main page and side bar. You noticed this yet?

Yeah, thats what surprised me as I've never been recommended videos with view counts in the 100s before. I am wondering where they're pulling this new data from though as it feels like its funneled in to your existing profile.

If you search something and scroll down a bit you'll notice a few recommendations which don't quite match the rest but are off at a tangent instead. Very interesting as usually it was hyper focused and has been for ages.

Like some video from somebody going to the lake with their kids and it only has 5 views from 2 days ago.


Or some extreme struggle youtubers that cant even get 900 views on a 2 hour live.

I like it. Its beats the tunnel vision it used to have as you see some different recommendations on the front page but the search just seems really off, especially these new "People also watched" and "For you" as well as the entire segmented style.

If you type in something totally random and never searched before it gives you very concise results but looking up stuff you usually do shows the overlay I was speaking about.

Thats the part that really stood out, in all my years on the site I don't think I've ever seen a single/double digit video and now they're being push hard. Its great for new creators as people were obviously gaming the algo previously to ensure their content was at the top and everything else was invisible.

Yep, I don't like that segmented approach and how its gives you a handful of options then loads of scrolling to find more with no choice to switch it. From their POV however it makes you stay on the site much longer though but I do wonder where they are splicing in the new data feeds though.

After the first few results they slip in things that are tangentially related before resuming the real results of the search. A few more scrolls down more bullshyt ..and so on

Yeah, in between the Shorts and constant scroll effect they put in a while ago and shorter view times in general I think its a good thing because of how much fluff and padding people were throwing into videos to game the algo.

Its an interesting shift though because previously they weren't competing and just feeding the fat whilst everyone else starved on the skreetz.
