Considering he probably never went to a high school or had the experiences one would associate with high school, like homecoming, prom, lunch, sports, going class to class, taking the bus, walking home, riding a bike home, mom or dad dropping you off and picking you up ...

I would imagine being around a bunch of average or 'normal' mfs makes him feel completely unnatural and like a fish out of water.

He probably experienced some form of formal education and attended classes at some point in his life but you have to trigger realize or remember, not only was both of his parents doing movies, but he was also a young kid doing movies.
