You do realize that insight into entertainers personal lives wasn't NEAR as possible back then as it is now right, especially now with social media and camera phones everywhere. It was truly moreso about the music back then.

One of the things that made these rappers special back then was their "mystique". I assume that you have no idea what I mean when I use that word

I know what you mean by mystique, and your point about social media is well taken.

But at the same time you say that it was "more so about the music back then" AND that rappers were more interesting because of their mystique, which is basically admitting that personal storylines have always mattered to some extent

Maybe I'm not explaining it correctly. I can only speak for myself but I've NEVER cared about "storylines" and the personalities of these rappers outside of the music. For example, I was a huge fan of Bone growing up and it was all about the music. I didn't know shyt about their personal lives or sexual orientations. Strictly music. The only thing I knew about was Bizzys child abduction story. I'm just now recently finding out couple months ago that Layzie got shot in the head.

Basicly for me, the less I know about these rappers the more "authentic" the music seems. Rap was better for me when they seemed like who they portrayed on wax instead of the cornball we know they REALLY are.

Joe Budden for example. I love him as a rapper but I try to stay away from his social media and reality tv stints that expose him as the cornball he really is. I just want music. That's it. Music.

Phonte' & elZhi are my 2 favorite rappers and I don't know shyt about their personal lives except what they talk about in their music. I like it like that.

This....if Lyor was smart he would have hid the fact that he has a million kids and have some fashion assistant handle his social media. Once the mainstream found out he not really about that fashion/gay/androgy life and was only using it as a gimmick his stock went down
