This one for the 80s/90s kids.

What were some of your favorite back in the day spots for Arcade games, and what are they now if it's not still open?

I'm a Bronx cat so let's see if anyone remembers these!

Fun World (Bruckner Plaza) - Bruckner Plaza was a big shopping center here. The entire top floor of one end of the Plaza use to be this giant arcade! Many great Friday nights with my cousins here! Remember playing Sonic Champioship at this spot back when it was still considered a rare and obscure entry into the franchise.

Today, it's just gone. In fact the entire Plaza is pretty much dead post-covid. The Toys R US, the two-story K-mart, the Blockbuster video is an Auto Zone.... All gone. Use to be such a vibrant spot. It's sad to even walk by.

Fun World (Fordham Rd) - They had a second location that was combined with a Sbarro pizza shop not far from where I went to middle school. Use to loiter around the GameStop and then go there to make some friends and play some DDR, Raiden, and Virtua Fighter!

Today - It's a Planet Fitness

Linda's Pizza - Just a local shop by me that was owned and ran by the family (Italian) and everyone loved their pizza. Think like Sal's Pizza from Do the Right Thing, but in the Bronx. Always alternated between some awesome games and pinball. I would stop by for a game and a slice every day. They always had a Neo Geo with Metal Slug, one of the Capcom Mashup fighters, and then every other month they'd get a new pinball machine. I loved The Simpsons machine the most.

Today: Pizza shop is still around but it's now run by Mexicans and they no longer house games.

Corner Laundromat - No name here. Just a generic local laundry where I grew up that was owned by a dude who always kept games in there. He would always alternate one the machines every month with a popular fighting game for the kids. but he NEVER got rid of the Ms. Pac Man!

Today - The laundromat is still around but it's been gotten rid of arcade games in there. Just a generic cheap corner laundry now.

Grand Slam Batting Cages - A Dominican owned batting cages and banquet hall that was close to my house. Had a killer arcade lineup with some good shyt! Soul Calibur, Dimahoo, and Roll of Thunder to name a few. Great place to hang in the summer!

Today - I think it's still around. I actually haven't checked it out in almost 20 years. Maybe I'll see some time.

New Roc City - Big Multiplex just a few minutes upstate from the Bronx. Place had a go-kart rink, ice skating, pool, bowling, mini golf, IMAX theatre, even some indoor amusement rides. And a fukkin killer arcade with tons of shyt I won't even list. New school and old school cabs everywhere.

Today - Still alive! Still has a great arcade! Still a perfect spot for a date night. It's not as active as before covid. It looks like a lot of attractions have since closed. But they still have that great arcade last I went.

Aladdin’s castle. Had all the best fighting games. Used to get down on marvel vs capcom, Tekken, even rival schools. It was in the local mall and now it’s a forever 21 or dime shyt.

I miss that damn place.

million in one in cambridge (my friends and would go to this after school, since it was just a few blocks away).

sadly, what was once a pastime has been replaced by home consoles and smartphones.

X-Cite : Giant 7000 ish sqft arcade with a Mcdonalds and Pizzahut inside, it was basically a mix of a traditional arcade, an amusement park, and a chuck E cheese with all the those elements dialed up to 10,

Soons as you walk in you are blitz with the sound of 100 + arcade cabinents, Mcdonalds Fries, Funnel Cakes, Pronto Pup, etc

they use to have a whole ass American ninja warrior type of play land that took up a quarter of the building; Rope Bridges, ball pit, giant crazy straw slide, and a bunch of shyt.

This was around the time UMK3, Super Street Fighter 2 and Killer Instinct both were out and were the loudest machines i remember hearing,

"ULTRAAAAAAAAAAA" "C-C-C-COMBOOOOO Breaker" was blaring across the entire arcade. Mad Asians surrounding the UMK3 cabinet and embarrassing anyone who dared stick a quarter in. them MFs had them thick ass strategy books while everybody else would just just jump on and wing it and get sent off and spectacular fashion

The sounds, the smells of all the foods clashing, the pure uncut fukkery all over the place.....complete and utter sensory overload. Me and my friend Used to save up allowance until we each had a 100 dollars and ball out for like six hours at a time. Back then $100 went far, that was enough money to play almost every arcade and beat it twice, lunch at Pizza hut and Dinner at Mc Donald's, jump on a few rides and still have about at least $15 left at the end of the day.

I remember having the distinct feeling of "I never wanna grow up" while having all the fun, Didnt want that shyt to end. When they closed down, that shyt broke me. nothing else compared; while I eventually had to move on to other aracdes I slowly faded out of the scene when Playstation 1 (PSX) and N64 dropped, and I caught a similar feeling playing GoldenEye and Siphon Filter 4player at home with my nikkas....Tekken 2:to:...God Bless

the memories :ohlawd: X-Cite will always be :blessed: tho
