He's a ridiculously dope rapper. But he's a white dude with an old soul doing retro type hip hop about a city that no longer exists the way it did. There's no real lane for him.
It's better off to stand out than fit in, Majority of rappers today sound exactly the same.
I don't disagree. I'm just wondering whether he has any lane for success.

i feel like he could be in the joey badass lane. He is way better than him to me and he doesnt sound as dusty as joey badass. Like droog actually varies the production he rhymes over. There is plenty of modern sounding producers who make similar and amazing beats. If droog or even joey hops on those more often then they would benefit.
Since he got away from emulating Nas as much he's not really doing or saying anything special that deserves the attention he gets for sounding like Nas. Honestly what bars are y'all hearing. There is nothing special about his rhymes to me and I felt like that since he was coming out sounding exactly like Nas. If we talking rapping and rhyems there is nothing really ill about this guy. He's not saying anything we haven't heard before done better. Y'all let me know what you see/hear like that
