What's up coli family? I hope everyone is well. I know quite a few people are in the online market. If you're new to it or are even established within it, then there may be a lot of questions you have.
Recently I was promoting an instrumental i made on my Facebook account. And I was licensing it for $1. Not 20 minutes after I put that status up i got a Facebook dm from a producer berating me about cheapening producer brands and flashing his $500 beat sells in my face. Not knowing anything about who I am or what I've done. He stated "Let me tell you how to do this, because you're doing this wrong." I played along because I wanted to see where this would go. He posted status after status of his $500 exclusive beat purchases. Im proud of this person I am, because it shows what is possible. But trying to "son" people you know; a person who was just minding their business... anyway after he showed me his $500 sells he wanted to hear my catalog because anyone offering beats for a dollar must be "trash" as a producer šŸ˜‚ Unless i'm selling a product that requires me to show my sells, I don't. It comes across as arrogant. This is a people based business at the end of the day. Whether you are working online or offline. Being good or great at music is awesome but if you're snobbish you won't connect with many people or build bridges. Being good or great at music isn't rare in the music business. Its like the NBA all of the players are great, some stand at an even higher level but at the end of the day, any of those players are serviceable and are considered great at what they do. I say that because looking down on people, not even knowing who they are is tantamount to cutting off any connections, you may build with that person.

Anyway There are tons of strategies when it comes to selling beats but before you do any of that you need to establish what you are trying to do. For instance are you trying to make money straight away or generate prospects.

Getting money straight away is great but if you don't have systems in place to capture this information when you make a sell you lose out on a lot of future business and that $50-$100 goes quickly.

Prospects- you typically get these by providing a gift for free. In a producers case this is usually a "free" beat In exchange you get their name and email address. The purpose of this is so you can continue to sell to them on a longterm basis.

Pros- free beats will get you quick contacts
Cons: Many people are freebie Hunters that have no intention of buying anything.

However even those that start with free beat downloads may turn into something down the road. One a few people who got free beats from me over the years ended up paying 1k+ on production down the line. A few months ago someone called my number and proceeded to say Hey, I don't know if you remember me, but I got a beat from you back in 2013. Are you still producing? I have a bigger budget now."

Low ticket offer/Front-end offer-these are those wow slap yourself ridiculous offers that you may see as a presented offer ie at the beginning of this post when that one producer reached out to me about how to run my business. My original offer was 1 track at $1.00 now its stupid on the surface, but what most people don't understand is that just putting a price on something instantly separates people and their minds. Just placing $1 on a track will get rid of all the freebie seekers. Those just looking for free will see themselves out. The goal of this method is to get paying customers. If you can get someone to spend $1 on your product or service then you can get them to spend $100.00. On that same token if you can't get them to spend even $1 they probably won't shop with you anytime soon.

The people that spent money on your products and services before are most likely the people that will buy from you again. This is why low ticket or front end offers are beneficial.

My current funnel setup

Free beat- capture contact
Low ticket offer for $30

In the last 2 years my free beat has been downloaded over 4200 times. Conservative 10% conversion = 420 people become buyers
420Ɨ (number of purchases) x $50 average order value) average income = $21,000 (assuming each buyer bought only one beat just from licensing via my own website now you add that in with placement work and other projects you end up making a little more. While this is going on you build your network up to help them out, they in term help you out and that leads to another job.

Be the person that your network can call for something and always comes through. That will keep you top of mind.

Ways to keep in contact with customers and prospects

You need an Email list- you can get a free bulk mailer via mailchimp.com its free for your first 2000 contacts. Everytime you put up a new beat, email the list. If you send to 4200 people you will get traffic you no longer have to pay social media/ advertising platforms for. you want premium paid features for email marketing, let me know and my technology specialist company can be of assistance by linking you with a different company. I hope this helps someone out there.

I would have just blocked that fukking producer. Dude was on some hoe shyt.
I hear that Boss.
If I was the younger me I definitely would have. He started actually having a conversation with me, and then he investigated what I was and what I did, and then he stopped, and he also started asking me questions. Then he started asking me about how I got xyz placement. Kids tend not to see the whole picture. He just finished, how he should have started, I can understand why he would see things that way because on the surface, you're making no money, but the front end of an offer generally never makes any money. I think he slowly is starting to see different ways of working his business which is the end goal. Experience is a scary thing, but some without it no matter how talented end up sometimes doing dumb things.

on second read.. what you are doing is no different than an unpaid intern or the ghost producer... i dont see why anyone would get mad.

If he's "nice" how does your price affect his... we had sentra's, altimas, maximas then infinitis ... nobody's price affected the other

I think he got jealous once he realized how talented you actually were. You prolly made him feel subconsciously insecure.

He can see shyt however he wants to, but no need to be disrespectful. If he john blaze like that, what you doing won't effect him.

but yeah I still agree with your post tho.

Exactly. in the grand scheme price changes when availability is increased. Many people can make beats now, because it's more accessible. But many people can play sports, and they are grinding for their opportunities just the same, and as it was said all these different brands of cars, are selling and making offers everyday. But as a marketer, I see the benefits of low and high ticket selling I may put all this in this one thread, as it may help other people.

Low ticket offers have a lot of advantages, but they also have a few disadvantages Especially when you are trying to start from the very beginning. This being that if you have zero clients, and zero prospects You won't be able to quickly build capital, so ads may not be something you can budget. This is where High- Ticket Selling -$500+ comes in.

The benefit in this method is You can focus on providing more value to the client, and by doing that you can make more money. That is actually a great way to get capital right away. However you have to understand what people are paying $500+ for because Value in anything is perceived, and people are fighting to increase there perceived value everyday.

If you're just going to sell a beat and pay $5000 the reason why many producers that aren't in the "industry" won't get that rate, is not because they aren't any good, its mainly because the people they are selling to don't, have the infrastructure for them to make their investment back. Most times when an artist spends 100k on production, that's because they are backed by groups, or people (usually a label) that has an infrastructure to make that money back and then some. The thing that commonly allows this is their connections with film companies, and licensing agencies, they can and will always exploit the artist masters to a degree that will allow them to make money back off of the records. That's why a "Master" recording is often fought for, and a big deal when an artist says We own our masters, because When you own your masters, they have to license through you, and that is before publishing is ever bought into the mix.

Many artists online won't have the backing to be able to make their money back, so it's easier for them to invest $20-$50-$100 in a beat. Which is great, and it's economical, but.... as a producer just beginning that may or may not work for you if you don't have a fanbase of paying artists willing to license your material. In that sense the producer that approached me was doing something right and I won't deny that if he's making that amount of money on the front end with just the beat it is more power to him. There is one thing an artist says when they are investing 500-5000 in a track, I know exactly what I'm doing marketing wise, and I have belief in myself, that with your track, I'm going to make my money back, or even better, I'm going to make a profit. Those artists are definitely out there. You just have to do effective marketing and analysis to find them.

You find them the same way you find your low-ticket clients, and then you do what a lot of companies do you Qualify them by asking questions, that let you know their budget, and their problems, so that you can lead them to the right offers and solutions. Based on their answers you put a package together that fits that type of client you are trying to attract. Keep in mind, High ticket and low ticket aren't a right or wrong way of working your business, they are just options that you can utilize to serve the various demographic of people. If you are able to, I encourage you to offer High and Low ticket offers, that will allow you to serve as many people as feasible. It's out their for us all, we just have to be willing to do the work; and be respectful while doing it.
