free riders would love you

People who dont put in they dont get to take out. A budget for things such as police forces, fired departments, roads, trash pick etc would be discussed in an open forum, open to all to attend. There would be a question and answer portion where the audience could ask questions, make suggestions and also take a vote on the different ideas proposed........yadda yadda yadda

Anyway, ours is okay. Impose term limits on all federal and gov't positions, revise constitution every 400 years, forced participation in government/lottery style, and enforced demographic representation that reflects demographics of the land.

What sense does it make to impose term limits on all federal and govt positions?

Revise constiution every 400 years? Why?

Forced participation in government/lottery style......this idea could be worked with

what do u mean by enforced demographic representation that reflects demographics of the land?

I think the "perfect" political system is one where the people vote on EVERYTHING (through the internet). We no longer need these piece of shyt politicians who don't do jack shyt for THE PEOPLE to speak for us. It is not the year 1800 where we need representatives to travel weeks by buggy to congress to vote. We can vote our god damn selves. You think if they put SOPA or any of these silly bills they're trying to pass to a direct vote by the people that it would pass? Not a chance. Their only chance is to lobby politicians to obtain their vote (not hard to do).

The fact remains however, that people who want to be in power, are probably the people who should not be in power. Scientists, intellectuals, none of them want to be politicians. "You don't need an IQ test to be in congress".

EXACTLY. Anyone whose raison d'etre is to be elected 'leader' of something is nothing but a damn minor/major megalo.

Oh yeah, no death penalty, forgot about that.

Eh, same as healthcare and such now. Hospitals can't refuse care to someone because they can't/won't pay for it, so certain things, I don't believe people should be allowed to 'choose.'

And people don't pay taxes all the time, if that were a national allowance we'd be even more of a clusterf*. With the priority we place on property rights it simply isn't practical for people to pick and choose which parts of society they want to participate in. Where will they go? Hamsterdam?

^ It was never intended for career politicians in the first place.

Revise constiution every 400 years? Why?

Not forced revision but active review, I should say, to ensure it reflects the values and needs of the current population.

An AA for gov't, why not- fed pols have a lot more in common with each other than they do with their electorate.

I took "all federal and govt positions? " at face value. Like every employee with a goverment job (I.E. IRS, Treasury dept, etc) would be out of a job after a certain amount of time.......

That isn't the same. I mean, an active debate/process by which voters vote on each amendment.

And the latter, 80% of the country isn't white males but our reps are.

Humanity
great thread.

Winston Churchill:
It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

perfect will never happen. politics are a human construct that
mirrors human interaction on a macro level, but it is still a human
construct and will be inherently flawed because people are not perfect.

the hybrid Socialism / Capitalism thing is appealing, but look at what Europe
is going through now. i'm all for "Free" education and health care, but it's
not "Free". a tax system is needed to support it and i fall on the side of a
progressive tax structure where you pay more into the system if you make
more money.

i think that educating children about the importance of being politically active
without indoctrinating them into any particular dogma is also very important.
teach them to question what is around them.

One in which the common good is the most important measure in determining public policy.

And only policies that do the most good with the least amount of harm are implemented.

Then you get a responsible group of good people to run it.

Anywhere we go from there will be great :blessed:
