Exactly, there's some rappers that try do that style and it's extremely wack. Won't mention names here lol. But you have to be a natural artist and not conform to the trends. Not every rapper needs to have a melody to be a good rapper. That's erroneous - some people prefer a melodic tone and that's cool. Everyone has their favorites. But it's better to use your strengths, and if melody ain't one of them, you're only shooting yourself in the foot.
Guru was an exceptional artist and 1 of the greatest of all time, cause he wasn't crooning doesn't change that, Jadakiss is dope too.
The whole point is for everyone to have different styles, some will be more straight up rhyming and some will be more melodically focussed.
Bizzy Bone uses a lot of melody and he's dope. Someone like Rakim less so but still is 1 of the greatest ever, and some have a mix.
My current GOAT is Pac and he used melody, 'Faaaame' but he was rhyming raw too. There isn't 1 way to do things, the requisite should be that it's dope and that's all, how an artist gets there is optional...

Jadakiss, Guru and shyt, 1 flow in 2 decades
. If you disagree then I just see you as a dikkrider
